15 Symptoms of Cancer That Women are Likely Ignore

There are many symptoms of cancer which mimic other disease and they are easily overlooked. There is a consensus among doctors that you should be aware of your body and if there is any change or unusual pain that persists, you should immediately consult your doctor.


1- Postmenopausal bleeding:

It is common for women to see some light spotting after menopause. But if you suddenly start bleeding again and it’s constant, then this could be a sign of uterine cancer.

You should consult your doctor, if you are diagnosed at stage 1, there is 80% chance of survival.

2 – Bloating:

Bloating is common among women, especially during that time of the month. You should be worried if you feel bloating or feel constipated even after your cycle is finished. It can be a sign of uterine or ovarian cancer. You should consult a doctor if it continue for few weeks.

3- Breast discoloration, dimpling or other changes:

A common sign of breast cancer is an unusual lump. There are other signals as well which can indicate the cancer. These include, breast becoming dimpled, swelling, discoloration of skin to pink or deeper red and a nipple inverting.

4 – Abnormal pelvic pain or periods:

Women often have irregular periods, but if the flow become significantly heavier after each month, you have pelvic pains or if you start bleeding between periods then you should ask your doctor for a trans-vaginal ultrasound. It is to check if there are any signs of uterine, vaginal or ovarian cancer.

5 – Nausea or stomach pain:

Noticing persistent cramps in stomach or if you are having nausea all the time, then you should see a doctor. It can be an ulcer, but it can also be a sign of leukemia or liver, pancreatic, esophageal or colorectal cancer.

6 – Excessive bruising:

Having a mysterious bruise once in a while is not a thing to worry about, it may be because you bumped into something. But if you notice bruises frequently, especially in some strange places like fingers or hands then it is a sign to worry. Unusual or easy bruising could be a sing of leukemia.

7 – Chronic coughing:

If you have a cough since 3 weeks or more and don’t have any symptoms of allergies, cold or runny nose, then it could be a sign of lung cancer. Leukemia is also a reason for such cough.

8 – Frequent infection or fevers:

If you feel getting fever frequently despite being healthy, it can be a sign of leukemia. Leukemia is the cancer of blood and results in body producing abnormal white blood cells which weakens the immune system.

9 – Persistent fatigue:

If you notice that you are tired every day despite taking proper rest or you experience shortness of breath which you didn’t experience before then you should see your doctor.

10 – Difficulty swallowing:

Swallowing can be painful when you have a sore throat. But if you have a sore throat that persists for few weeks, it could be a sign of stomach or lung cancer.

11 – Unexplained weight loss:

Weight loss is a good thing, but if you have less appetite without there being a good reason, then it could be a sign of a cancer such as pancreatic, colon, liver or esophageal. It is also a common symptom of lymphoma or leukemia.

12 – Noticeable skin changes:

The most common cancer in America is skin cancer. It is also a very hard cancer to recognize. A darker age spot, moles or freckles are common. But if you notice a mole getting larger, darker or becoming raised then you should get it checked.

13 – Chronic headaches:

If you are suddenly having headaches every day despite of having no history of migraines or consistent headaches then it is a worrying sign. It could be because of a brain tumor.

14 – Blood in the stool:

This could be a sign of colon cancer. At the age of 50 years colon cancer screening is recommended.

15 – Pain or Sores in the mouth:

Cold sores that heal themselves are not to be worried about. However if you have sores that don’t heal, red or white patches on tongue or gums, a pain that’s not going away, and any numbness or swelling of the jaw, it could be a sign of mouth cancer. You should see a doctor if they persist for more than two weeks.
